New trips options from Explore
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008The new Kili? Among the new entries, adventure specialist Explore has introduced a trek up Damavand Mountain in Iran – a 5,671m-high volcano that ranks alongside Kilimanjaro both in terms of toughness and scenery, but is much less well-known. Hikers on the Everest Lodge Trek will enjoy cosy accommodation on the famous flanks, while those on the Moroccan Desert Adventure will relish a three-day, camel-supported trek deep into the Sahara.
Not just deserts Remote sands are also offered on the new Prophets & Petra tour – which combines Bethlehem, the Dead Sea and Jordan with the eerie expanse that is Israel’s Negev Desert – as well as the Ancient Caravan Trail, a tour which features the rarely-explored Syrian desert. Cooler quietude is found on Poetic China and Kyoto & the Japanese Alps, both new cultural tours taking in less-visited and more traditional corners of the two Asian superpowers.
Adventure, fast! New, shorter tours have been designed for those with less time to spare: the Inca Trail Trek in Peru requires only five days off work, while a nine-day tour of São Tomé includes coffee plantations and hiking across the equator. Tours to the Galapagos and Patagonia have been shortened from three to two weeks, and Lakes & Mountains of Italy offers eight days of activity and unusual culture, such as mask factory visits, in northern Italy.
