Females account for half of solo travelers

Latest research from YHA Australia has indicated that single travellers in Australia, which in itself is a growing number, is now being dominated by females. Traditionally it was men who were more likely to travel alone but this trend in now in reverse.
The YHA have also suggested that women should take more precautions if they are travelling alone, such as avoiding hitch hiking and booking single sex dorms where possible.
Australia is seen as a safe destination for solo female backpackers but the normal precautions should always be taken and safety should come first.
